What is the Silver Thread?
Silver Thread? The Silver Thread is a scenic highway in Southern Colorado. Running roughly between the two old mining towns of Lake City and Creede the highway when followed will lead you through some of the most beautiful country you will ever see. (See pictures below.)
My family spent summer vacations in log cabins along this scenic road and our time was spent fishing, hiking, rafting, exploring, and most importantly spending time together.
I looked forward to those trips every year and did not realize at the time that I would take more than a sunburn away from those long summer days.
Along the Silver Thread I learned that family matters and I was truly grateful for mine. I learned that nothing beats time spent outside; between the views, the fresh air and sunshine, and an endless supply of activities to get your heart pumping what could be better? I learned that I loved exploring new places and trying new sports/activities. The energy and excitement we have as children exploring or trying something new for the first time can be carried over into adulthood as you try new things and have fun doing them.
Years, a husband, and two children later I find myself still loving the outdoors, yearning to lose a few pounds, and wanting to return to the healthy lifestyle I used to follow and love.
Here you'll find my successes and failures, food tried, pounds lost (fingers crossed), fun had, and hopefully a spark of interest to try a healthier lifestyle for yourself.
The Silver Thread Highway runs just below this mountain… along where the tree line can be seen.
The cabins we rented each summer from one of the mountains we hiked each year.
